This series of paintings in this exhibition possess a psychological intensity that paradoxically serves as an act of emotional and spiritual liberation. Empowered by this new artistic journey, Anthony Murray experiments with a range of techniques and painterly materials, such as various types of media and embedded textures in his canvases, while simultaneously questioning social notions of truth and false moralities. Within the narratives of these paintings, Murray challenges his belief systems and the broader roles we were taught to mindlessly follow. No matter how irreverent or personal this journey is, the spectator will find the artworks accessible as they have been created in a visual language that incorporates urban life, graffiti and ludic pop culture references.
